Additional Clutch Parts

About Additional Clutch Parts

These are the small internal parts of a belt-driven CVT clutch, and a few items that go with them: weights, rollers, buttons, pins and bushings, plus a clutch boot and a bearing driver. They wear in service, and they are also the parts tuners change to suit tire size, altitude or added engine power.

Weights are listed by gram range, such as 61 to 74 g for a Can-Am and 72 to 94 g for adjustable Polaris weights. They are also listed by pack count, from a 2-pack of rollers to a set of 6 weights or a 12-pack of bushings, so check that you have enough for every arm of the clutch. Heavier weights generally make the clutch upshift at a lower engine speed, and lighter weights let the revs climb higher first. Rollers, buttons and pins are listed by machine, mostly Polaris and Can-Am, and are usually replaced together because they wear against one another.

Brands in this category include EPI, Bikeman Performance, Quad Logic and Fett Brothers. To tune the same clutch with springs, see Clutch Springs, and for a matched set see Complete Clutches & Kits. The main group is Clutch Parts & Kits.

FAQs on UTV and ATV CVT clutch parts

What do clutch weights do in a CVT clutch?

Weights swing outward as the engine speeds up and push the clutch to close on the belt. Heavier weights make that happen at lower engine speed, so the machine shifts up earlier, and lighter ones delay it. The right choice depends on tire size, altitude and power.

Should I replace clutch rollers and buttons together?

It is the usual practice. Rollers and buttons wear against each other, and a worn part can quickly wear its new partner. Replace them as a set, along with pins and bushings that show wear, and follow the service manual for your model.

How do I choose a clutch weight?

Start with the weight your owner's manual or the clutch maker's chart recommends for your machine, then change in small steps if you have changed tires, altitude or power. Adjustable weights let you try different settings. Change one thing at a time.

Do I need special tools to work on a CVT clutch?

Usually yes. The primary clutch is held by a bolt and comes off with a puller, and you need a holding tool for the clutch. Removing it without the right tools can damage the shaft or the clutch. Follow your service manual.

Are clutch weights sold singly or in sets?

Listings vary, with packs of two, six or twelve shown here. Check the count against the number of arms on your clutch. Mixing unequal weights makes the clutch unbalanced and can cause vibration.
