Hardware & Fasteners
About Hardware & Fasteners
Fasteners hold a motorcycle together, and the hardware in this category also covers small service items: magnetic drain plugs, sealing washers, locking ties, clips and protective tape. Riders buy it to replace bolts that are stripped, rusted or lost, to refit plastics after a crash, or to swap in lighter or color-matched hardware.
Match a fastener by thread size and pitch (for example M6 or M10), length, head type and material. Steel is the usual choice, stainless resists rust, and titanium is lighter, as in the M6 titanium bolt in this category. Model-specific kits save sorting out each bolt: the samples include bolt packs for KTM, Husqvarna and Gas Gas, rotor bolt kits and plastics fastener kits for Yamaha. Magnetic drain plugs are listed by engine model. Banjo washers are sealing washers for brake and fluid line fittings. Brake rotor and caliper bolts are safety-critical, so use the grade and torque your service manual gives.
Brands in this category include BOLT, DEI, HELIX, ZETA, DRC and RFX. These fasteners go with parts in Brakes & Brake Parts, Body & Frame, Engines & Engine Parts and Guards & Protection. Pick your machine in the Ride Finder at the top of the page for model-specific kits. The whole range sits under Motorcycle.
FAQs on motorcycle hardware and fasteners
How do I identify the right bolt size?
Check the thread size and pitch, such as M6 x 1.0, the length under the head and the head type. A thread pitch gauge and calipers help. Your service manual lists the size for each location, and an exact match is safer than a bolt that is nearly right.
Should I reuse the bolts that came off or buy new ones?
Replace bolts that are stretched, rusted, rounded or damaged. Safety-critical bolts for brakes, axles and suspension should match the grade the manufacturer specifies, so do not substitute weaker hardware. If you are in doubt about a bolt's condition, replace it.
Are titanium bolts stronger than steel bolts?
Titanium is lighter than steel and resists rust, but strength depends on the grade. Check the listing for the grade and use titanium only where it is appropriate. Do not replace critical bolts, such as those on the brakes, axles or suspension, with a lower-grade part.
What does a magnetic drain plug do?
A magnetic drain plug has a magnet that holds fine metal particles from the oil on the plug instead of letting them circulate. It also lets you see what has collected on it at each oil change. It must match your engine's drain thread, so choose the one listed for your model.
Do banjo washers need to be replaced?
Normally, yes. Banjo washers are soft sealing washers that crush slightly to seal the banjo bolt, and a used one may not seal again. Most mechanics fit new washers whenever a brake or fluid line is disconnected. Match the size, such as M10, and follow your manual's torque.
