About Oil Coolers & Lines

An oil cooler is a small radiator for engine oil. Hot oil flows through it and gives up heat to the air passing over it, which helps keep the oil temperature down on engines that work hard. This category has two oil coolers from All Balls, both for Polaris machines: one for the General 1000 Deluxe and one for the ACE 900 XC and RZR 4 900 EPS.

An oil cooler is a model-specific part, so match it to your make, model and year; the listing names the machines it fits. People replace one when it is damaged by impact or debris, when it leaks at the cooler or its connections, or when the oil system is being refreshed. After fitting, fill with the oil grade and quantity from your manual, run the engine, and check the level and the connections for leaks.

This is a very small category, so pick your machine in the Ride Finder at the top of the page. For other parts of the cooling system, see Water Pumps, Thermostats & Housings and Pipes & Hoses, all part of Engine Cooling.

FAQs on oil coolers

What does an oil cooler do on a UTV or ATV?

An oil cooler lowers the temperature of the engine oil by passing it through a small radiator, where air carries heat away. Oil that stays cooler resists thinning, which matters on hard-working engines. The cooler is separate from the coolant radiator.

How can I tell if an oil cooler is leaking?

Look for oil residue or drips around the cooler and its fittings, a falling oil level, or oil on the frame below it. A leak can also show as smoke or a burning smell if oil drips on hot parts. Fix it before riding further.

Do I need to change the oil after replacing an oil cooler?

Not always, but some oil will be lost during the job, so refill and check the level after running the engine. If the oil was contaminated or is due for a change, change it and the filter at the same time.

Will an oil cooler from a different model fit my machine?

Do not assume so. Coolers differ in size, fittings and mounting, and the listings here are for specific Polaris models. Pick your machine in the Ride Finder and match the listing to your model and year.
