Fog Light Assemblies
About Fog Light Assemblies
Fog lights are auxiliary lights mounted low on the bike to add light on the road ahead when the weather or the road is poor. Riders fit them to improve forward lighting, to give the front of the bike a different look, or to replace a damaged unit.
Look at the lens color, size and finish. The samples include clear, white and selective yellow lenses, and some riders choose yellow in rain or mist. A size such as 4-1/2 inch suits bikes with a matching mount, and finishes include chrome and black. Listings are marked for Harley-Davidson, Indian and others, so match the make and year. You also need a mount, wiring and a switch, and the mounts are sold separately in Hardware, Mounts & Brackets. This category also lists a guard for a fog light. Use a fused, switched circuit, and aim the lights so they do not dazzle oncoming traffic.
Brands in this category include CUSTOM DYNAMICS, MOTOR TRIKE, J.W. SPEAKER, DENALI and NAMZ. The main front light is in Headlight Assemblies, and connectors are in Sockets, Connectors & Wiring. The whole group is Lighting & Lamps. Pick your machine in the Ride Finder at the top of the page for lights made for it.
FAQs on motorcycle fog lights
Do fog lights replace the headlight?
No. Fog lights add light low and ahead of the bike, but they do not replace the headlight, which has to stay working. They are intended to add to your lighting, not to be used in place of it. Follow local lighting rules.
What does selective yellow mean on a fog light?
A selective yellow lens gives the light a yellow tint. Some riders prefer it in rain, mist or fog because it looks less harsh than white light. It does not make the light brighter, so choose by preference and by how it looks with the rest of the bike.
What do I need to install fog lights?
Besides the lights, you need mounts, wiring and a switch, and often a relay and a fuse. Some kits are complete and others are the light alone, so check what is included and whether the mount fits your fork, bars or crash bar.
How should fog lights be aimed?
Aim them low so the beam falls on the road a short way ahead, and check that they do not shine into the eyes of oncoming drivers. Adjust them with the bike loaded as you normally ride it, and recheck after any change to the lights or the load.
Do LED fog lights need special wiring?
LED lights draw less current than halogen, but they still need a fused feed. Use the harness and relay that come with the kit or are recommended, and make sure the connections are sealed against water. Follow the instructions for your bike.
