Risers, Clamps & Brackets
About Risers, Clamps & Brackets
Risers lift the handlebar and sometimes move it back toward you, clamps hold the bar to the risers or the triple clamp, and brackets and mounting clamps hold other parts to the bar or fork. Riders fit risers to raise a low bar for comfort, to change the reach, or to replace bent or corroded ones.
Riser height is listed in inches, and the samples run from 2 inches to 4 inches, with some risers adding pullback or offset so the bar sits closer to you. Match the riser to the bar: the listings here are made for 1-inch and 1-1/4-inch bars and for 40 mm MX-style bar mounts, and a clamp must match the bar's diameter at the clamp. Pivoting risers let you tilt the bar angle. A taller riser can mean longer cables and lines, so check full-lock steering after the change. Tighten the clamp bolts evenly to the torque your manual gives, so the bar neither slips nor cracks.
Brands in this category include COVINGTONS, CIRO, Drag Specialties, ODI and WSM. The bars that go in them are in Handlebars, and Other Handlebars, Grips & Controls and Grips, Covers & Pads sit nearby. The whole group is Handlebars, Grips & Controls. Pick your bike in the Ride Finder at the top of the page to see mounts made for it.
FAQs on handlebar risers and clamps
How high should handlebar risers be?
There is no single right height. Taller risers bring the grips up toward you, which can ease wrist and back strain for some riders, but they also change how weight sits on your hands and can need longer cables. Start with a modest increase, sit on the bike to judge it and check steering at full lock.
Will risers change the cables I need?
They can. Raising or pulling back the bar changes the route the throttle and clutch cables, brake line and wiring take. If they are stretched or pinched at full lock, fit longer ones made for your model. Turn the bars fully both ways before you ride.
Do handlebar risers have to match my bar diameter?
Yes. The clamp on the riser must fit the diameter of the bar where it clamps, such as 1 inch or 1-1/4 inch. Risers are often made for one diameter only, so choose the risers and the bar together and read the size in the listing.
What are pullback or offset risers?
Pullback or offset risers move the bar toward the rider as well as upward. They are useful when raising the bar would otherwise push the grips too far forward. The listings here include offset block risers, so look at the offset as well as the height.
How tight should handlebar riser bolts be?
Use the torque in your service manual or the riser maker's instructions, and tighten the bolts gradually and evenly. A loose clamp lets the bar slip, and an overtight one can crack the clamp or damage the bar. Recheck them after the first ride.
