Complete Clutches & Kits
About Complete Clutches & Kits
A clutch kit bundles the parts that wear together, so one purchase covers the job. Riders buy one when the clutch slips, when the plates are worn out, or when they want a matched set for tuning a belt clutch. The mix here covers manual clutches for quads and dirt-bike style machines, and CVT kits for machines such as the RZR and the KRX.
Contents differ by maker and application, so read each listing. A typical manual clutch kit is built around friction plates, steel plates and springs, while a CVT kit includes parts such as weights and springs. Kits are named by model, for example the YFZ350 or WR250Z, or by purpose, such as a mud clutch kit, a clutch rebuild kit, a Stage 2 trail kit for the RZR and a clutch weight kit for the KRX. Check whether the kit includes a gasket, and whether the basket, hub or cable need to be bought separately.
Brands in this category include Comet, EPI, EBC, Barnett and S&S Cycle. To buy parts one at a time, see Clutch Plates & Discs, Clutch Springs and Clutch Baskets & Hubs. The whole group is Clutch Parts & Kits. Pick your machine in the Ride Finder at the top of the page to see kits made for it.
FAQs on UTV and ATV complete clutches and kits
What is usually included in a clutch kit?
It depends on the kit. A manual clutch kit usually has friction plates, steel plates and springs, and some add a gasket. A CVT kit might have weights, springs or rollers. The listing should say what is inside, so read it before ordering.
What does a Stage 2 clutch kit mean?
Stage numbers are the maker's way of grading how far a kit changes the stock setup, and stage 2 is a step beyond stock. The parts differ between makers, so read what is included and what machine and use it is made for.
When is a kit better than buying individual parts?
A kit makes sense when the plates and springs are all due for replacement, because the parts are matched and you buy once. If only a cable or one spring is bad, replacing that part alone costs less. Inspect the clutch before deciding.
Do I need other parts to finish a clutch job?
Often a cover gasket and fresh engine oil, and sometimes a cable or a new basket if the old one is notched. Check the kit contents against your service manual, and inspect the basket and hub before you close it up.
Does a new clutch need breaking in?
New friction plates bed in over the first stretch of riding. Avoid hard launches and heavy abuse at first, and follow the kit maker's instructions. Check the lever free play and the oil level after the first ride.
