Clutch Parts & Kits
About Clutch Parts & Kits
A clutch connects the engine to the drivetrain and lets power be applied smoothly. Slipping under throttle, a hard or dragging lever, rough engagement and a broken cable are the usual reasons riders shop here, along with upgrades for riders who want firmer engagement or a tuned belt-driven clutch.
Two designs share this category, so work out which one you have first. Manual clutches, found on many sport quads and dirt-bike style machines, use a stack of friction and steel plates in a basket, with springs and a cable or hydraulic lever. Belt-driven CVT clutches, common on UTVs and many ATVs, use weights and springs to change the drive ratio automatically. Individual parts are in Clutch Plates & Discs, Clutch Springs, Clutch Baskets & Hubs, Clutch Covers, Clutch Cables, Clutch Hydraulics and Additional Clutch Parts. Complete Clutches & Kits has matched sets.
Brands in this category include Comet, EPI, EBC, Parts Unlimited and Barnett. Clutch parts are listed by engine and model, so pick your machine in the Ride Finder at the top of the page. The whole group is part of Transmission & Drivetrain. If a part has ever not fit, this guide explains how to avoid it.
FAQs on UTV and ATV clutch parts
How can I tell that my clutch is slipping?
The engine revs rise without the machine speeding up to match, especially under load or in a higher gear, and you may smell burning. Causes include worn plates, weak springs, oil contamination or a cable that is out of adjustment. Check your manual before replacing parts.
How does a manual clutch differ from a CVT clutch?
A manual clutch is operated by a lever and engages or releases using friction plates. A CVT clutch is automatic: weights and springs change how a belt rides between two pulleys, which sets the drive ratio. They use different parts, so identify yours first.
What else should I replace during a clutch job?
Inspect the basket and hub for notched grooves, and check the cable, the cover gasket and the engine oil. Plates and springs are usually replaced together, and a worn basket can damage new plates. Follow your service manual for the parts list on your model.
Does the type of engine oil affect the clutch?
On engines where the clutch runs in the engine oil, yes. Some oils contain friction-reducing additives that can make a clutch slip. Use the oil grade and specification your owner's manual calls for, and change it at the stated interval.
How do I know which clutch parts are for my machine?
Clutch parts are made for a specific engine, so match your make, model and year to the listing. Pick your machine in the Ride Finder to narrow the results. Where a listing covers several makes, check that your model is among those named.
