Steering Wheels, Handlebars & Grips
About Steering Wheels, Handlebars & Grips
This group covers the parts you steer and control the machine with: handlebars and the grips on them, the clamps and risers that mount the bars, switches and levers at your hands, and steering wheels. Riders shop here when grips wear smooth, a bar bends in a crash, or to change bar height and reach for comfort or a different riding position.
The sub-categories divide the job. Handlebars has off-road bars in a range of bends, many of them 7/8 inch, along with ATV and pit bike bars. Risers, Clamps & Brackets raise or move the bar and hold it in place. Buttons & Switches has throttle levers, master cylinder caps and switches. Steering Wheels is for side-by-sides. The group also has Other Steering Wheels, Handlebars & Grips. Grips and bar end plugs are among the items listed in this group.
Bars, grips and clamps must all match in diameter, so check the size on each listing. Brands in this category include Scott, Zeta, ODI, Renthal and Fire Power. For parts made for a particular machine, such as throttle levers, pick yours in the Ride Finder at the top of the page. The group is part of UTV | ATV.
FAQs on steering wheels, handlebars and grips
Do grips, handlebars and clamps all need to match in size?
Yes. Grips must fit the bar diameter, and clamps and risers must be made for the same bar diameter. Many off-road bars here are 7/8 inch, and the listing states the size. Check the diameter of your current bar before you buy any of the three.
Is it safe to straighten a bent handlebar?
No. Bending a bar back weakens the metal, and a bar that has been bent can crack later. Replace a bent or cracked handlebar. Check the controls, clamps and risers for damage at the same time, since a crash that bends a bar often loads them too.
How do I change my handlebar height?
Use risers or a different bend of bar. Risers raise the bar by the height listed, and some also move it back toward you. After changing, check that the cables, brake line and wiring reach full steering lock without pulling or kinking.
Why do my handlebar grips slip or spin?
Push-on grips can spin if the adhesive has failed or the bar is oily, and lock-on grips can spin if the clamps are loose or the diameter is wrong. Clean the bar, match the size, and follow the grip maker's instructions to secure them.
Do side-by-sides use handlebars?
No. Side-by-sides steer with a steering wheel, while quads steer with handlebars. The Steering Wheels category has wheel and hub listings, and the handlebar, grip and riser listings are for quads and other bar-steered machines, so choose by how your machine steers.
