Clutch & Hand Brake Lever Kits
About Clutch & Hand Brake Lever Kits
A lever set replaces the clutch and front brake levers as a matched pair, so the shape, color and reach agree. Riders buy a set to replace levers that bent or snapped in a fall, to fit a shorter or flexible lever for off-road riding, or to restyle a cruiser in chrome or black.
Lever shape is the main choice. Shorty levers are easy to pull with one or two fingers, slotted wide-blade sets in chrome and black suit cruisers, and the flexible sets in the dirt bike listings are made to bend rather than break in a fall. Next, check how your bike works the clutch: a cable clutch and a hydraulic clutch use different levers, and the lever must match the perch or master cylinder it bolts to. Harley-Davidson sets are listed by year range and dirt bike sets by make and model. Some listings here are cable kits or grips, so read the title to see what comes in the box.
Brands in this category include BRAKING, ZETA, HardDrive, Drag Specialties and ODI. Single levers are in Clutch Levers and Hand Brake Levers, and Grips, Covers & Pads and Handlebars are the neighboring parts. Pick your bike in the Ride Finder at the top of the page, and if you want to know why a fit can go wrong, read why a part did not fit and how to avoid it. The whole group is Handlebars, Grips & Controls.
FAQs on clutch and brake lever sets
Do clutch and brake lever sets fit every motorcycle?
No. A set is made for a specific make, model and year range, or for a particular master cylinder and clutch type. Check the fitment line in the listing and use the Ride Finder to narrow the list to your bike.
Are flexible levers better for off-road riding?
Flexible levers are designed to bend on impact and spring back, so they are less likely to snap in a tip-over. That is why they are popular on dirt bikes. They are not unbreakable, so inspect the lever and perch after a crash and replace anything bent or cracked.
What is a shorty lever?
A shorty lever is shorter than the standard blade, so you pull it with one or two fingers and leave the others on the grip. Which length is better depends on your hand size and riding style. Reach adjustment, where a lever has it, changes how far the blade sits from the grip.
Do I need a new cable when I replace the clutch lever?
Not always. The existing cable usually reconnects to a new lever when the cable end matches. Replace a cable that is frayed, stiff or too short for new handlebars. Some listings in this category are cable kits made for taller bars.
How do I set up new levers after installing them?
Fit the levers to the perches, lubricate the pivot as the maker directs and set the reach so you can pull without straining. Check that a cable clutch has the free play your manual specifies, that the brake lever springs back fully, and that any front brake light switch works.
