About Helmet Accessories

Helmet accessories are the add-ons that change how a helmet works or looks once you already own it. Riders shop here to add a Bluetooth headset for music, calls and navigation, to swap in a different peak or spoiler, or to replace a small piece such as a vent or cheek pad.

Listings fall into a few kinds. Communication gear, such as the Freecom 4X headset duo listed here, sits on or inside the helmet and pairs with a phone or another rider. Check that the speakers fit the ear pockets of your helmet and how the unit mounts to the shell. Peaks, spoilers and mouth vents are model-specific finishing pieces made to match a particular helmet, so the listing should name the helmet.

Cheek pads and similar spares also appear here, and for those the size matters as much as the model. Never drill, glue or paint a shell to attach something, because adhesives and solvents can weaken it. For visors and visor inserts, see Visors and Visor Inserts, and for care and cleaning, see Helmet Care & Cleaning.

Brands in this category include Cardo, AGV, Sena and Fly Racing. Helmet pieces are also in Helmet Parts, and why your powersports part did not fit covers how to avoid ordering the wrong one.

FAQs on helmet add-ons and communication gear

Will a Bluetooth headset fit inside my helmet?

Most helmets can take a clip-on headset, but the speakers need room in the ear pockets and the mount needs a suitable spot on the shell. Check the listing for compatibility with your helmet style. Some helmets are made with recesses for communication speakers.

Can I use an accessory made for another helmet?

Usually not. Spoilers, peaks, vents and pads are shaped for one model, and often for specific sizes. A part from another model may not seat, seal or release correctly. Match the model name in the listing to the one on your helmet.

Is it safe to glue or drill a helmet to mount something?

No. Adhesives, solvents and drilling can weaken a shell or foam liner. Use accessories that come with their own clip, strap or mounting plate, and follow the helmet maker's instructions. If a mounting method is not approved for your helmet, do not use it.

Does a helmet spoiler do anything?

A spoiler is a model-specific rear piece that finishes the helmet's shape, and some makers design it to manage airflow around the back of the helmet. The effect varies by helmet, so treat it as a model-matched part and fit only the one made for your helmet.

Will a headset make my helmet noisier or less comfortable?

It can. Speakers can press on the ears if the ear pockets are shallow, and a unit on the outside of the shell adds a little wind noise. Check the fit and the shield closing with the headset installed, and adjust the position on a short ride.
