SENA Bluetooth Communicators and Smart Helmets

Sena is a communicator-first brand, so the first decision is whether you want a headset to clip onto the helmet you already own or a helmet with the system built in. We list about 30 Sena products: roughly 18 helmets in Motorcycle & Powersport Helmets, 7 communication systems, and a handful of small add-ons in Headsets & Intercoms and Speakers.

Sena's own site says the company was founded in 1998 as an industrial technology company and launched its first motorcycle Bluetooth communicator, the SMH10, in 2010.

Communication systems

Clip-on units. The SF1 Bluetooth communication system is the entry listing, and the SF4 HD system, dual pack steps up to HD audio. The 10C EVO adds a camera, and the Spider ST1 mesh system, dual pack with jog dial is the mesh option.

Helmet-specific. The 10U comm system with handlebar remote is listed for Arai full face helmets. The Mesh Bluetooth to Mesh intercom adapter is a separate part, and the Nautitalk Bosun headset, quad is a quad headset set.

Helmets

Smart helmets are named by style. Full face is the Phantom FF Mesh Com in glossy white (3 finishes), the Phantom XB Smart, the Phantom ANC, the Stryker with mesh intercom and the Outforce Bluetooth. Flip-up is the Specter Smart, Impulse and Outrush R. The Outlander Smart DS, Surge open face and Cavalry 2 half helmet cover the rest. Sizes are in the titles or on the page, so check yours.

Speakers and add-ons

Replacement HD speakers for the Spider ST1 and speakers for the 50R are listed by model, along with a magnetic 2 in 1 USB power cable and a universal helmet clamp kit for CB or audio units. More mounts and extras are under Helmet Accessories.

Sena questions

Do I need a helmet, or just a communicator? A clip-on system goes on a helmet you already own. The Smart and Mesh Com helmets have the system in the listing name.

Will one unit talk to another Sena? Mesh listings are named for it, and the Mesh Bluetooth to Mesh adapter bridges Bluetooth units into a mesh group.

Can I switch helmets later? The clip-on systems are listed separately from the helmets, so a communicator can be bought without a new helmet.
