Cardo Motorcycle Communication Systems

Cardo makes Bluetooth communicators that mount on a helmet, and the point of owning one is talking to a passenger or other riders and playing music or navigation prompts without taking your hands off the bars. We stock about 40 Cardo products: PACKTALK, Freecom and Spirit headsets, off-road (ORV) kits, second-helmet kits, speakers and adapters. Cardo says it has been making rider communication gear since 2004 and that it released the first motorcycle Bluetooth communicator, the Scala Rider.

Which Cardo line is which

PACKTALK Edge. Our best-known line, sold as a single or a double, with ORV and KTM editions. On its product page Cardo states that the Edge connects up to 31 riders at up to 1 mile (1.6 km), uses second-generation Dynamic Mesh Communication, has JBL 40mm speakers, an IP67 waterproof rating and a magnetic Air Mount, and quotes 13 hours of battery life.

PACKTALK Pro and Neo. The PACKTALK Pro Duo and Pro Single, plus the PACKTALK Neo Duo and Neo Single. Compare the specs on each listing before choosing between them and the Edge.

PACKTALK Outdoor. Single and duo sets in black or white, for example the PACKTALK Outdoor Duo in black.

Freecom and Spirit. The Freecom 4X Duo, Freecom 2X and Spirit HD headsets are priced below the PACKTALK Edge double.

ORV and EdgePhones. PT EdgePhones Duo for ORV and the PACKTALK Edge Duo ORV Edition are listed for off-road vehicles.

Single, duo and extras

A single listing is one unit and a duo or double listing is two units, which is the version to pick if a passenger or second rider will wear one too. If you already own a headset and want to move it to a second helmet, the PACKTALK Edge 2nd Helmet Kit and similar kits carry the line name in the title, so match the kit to the headset. We also list 40mm speakers, half helmet kits, a gel cup for EdgePhones and a PACKTALK Shoei adaptor.

Before you buy

Cardo systems mount in or on the helmet, so helmet shape matters as much as the headset. Read the listing for mounting notes, and use the matching 2nd-helmet or half-helmet kit if your lid is open-face or a half shell. For the range, group size and battery figures, use the numbers on the product page rather than assuming one line matches another.

Cardo questions

Do I need two units to talk to a passenger? Yes, both helmets need a compatible unit, which is why duo sets exist.

Can I use it off-road? The ORV editions and EdgePhones are listed for off-road vehicles. Check the listing for your use.
