Guards & Guides
About Guards & Guides
Chain guides, sliders and case savers protect the parts of a quad that a drive chain would otherwise wear or damage. The listings here are for sport quads and dirt bikes, including the Yamaha YFZ450 and Raptor 700, Honda TRX450R and Yamaha Banshee, and they come in several colors.
A chain guide holds the chain in line so it stays on the sprocket, and a slider is a wear pad that takes the rub from the chain instead of the swingarm. A case saver, also called a sprocket cover, covers the engine's front sprocket area to protect the case. Listings are by model, and some name several makes, such as Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki and Yamaha, so check that your model is named. Colors are cosmetic, so choose by fit first.
The brand here is T.M. Designworks. The chain and sprockets they protect are in Final Drive Belts & Chains and Sprockets. Related parts are in Driveshafts & Parts. The group is Final & Primary Drive Parts & Kits. Pick your machine in the Ride Finder at the top of the page to see parts made for it.
FAQs on UTV and ATV chain guides and sliders
What does a chain guide do?
It holds the chain in line as it runs around the sprockets so it does not wander off or rub on the frame. It also lets the chain run smoother. Guides wear with use, so check them when you service the chain.
What is a case saver?
A case saver is a cover over the engine's front sprocket area. It shields the engine case from the sprocket and chain, and it can also keep debris out. Choose the one listed for your model, as the shape depends on the engine case.
Can a worn chain slider damage the swingarm?
Yes. A slider takes the rub from the chain, and once it is worn through, the chain can cut into the swingarm. Check the slider each time you service the chain, and replace it before the chain reaches the metal.
Should I fit a new guide with a new chain?
It is a good idea to check it. A worn or grooved guide can wear a new chain unevenly, so many riders replace guides and sliders with the chain and sprockets. Check that the guide suits your model and chain size.
