About Towing, Recovery & Accessories

Towing and recovery gear covers four jobs: pulling a stuck machine out, tying a load down, hauling a trailer and clearing snow. Riders shop here when they add a winch or plow for the first time, replace a worn rope, or need a hitch for a trailer or spreader.

The sub-categories split the work. Winches are for self-recovery and need model-specific mounts. Tow Ropes, Chains & Straps covers winch rope, recovery ropes and tie-downs, and the three are not interchangeable: a tie-down holds cargo and is not made for a recovery pull. Trailer Hitches cover balls, receivers, couplers and locks for trailers and attachments. Plows cover mounting kits and lift parts for snow. Winch mounts and plow mounting kits are listed by make, model and year, so check the years named.

Brands in this section include Warn, Curt, Dead Bolt, All Balls and Kolpin. Pick your machine in the Ride Finder at the top of the page to narrow mounts and kits to your model, and read why your part did not fit and how to avoid it if you are unsure what to match. The full vehicle section is UTV | ATV.

FAQs on UTV and ATV towing and recovery

What is the difference between recovery gear and tie-downs?

Tie-downs hold cargo in place and are not made for pulling a stuck vehicle. Recovery ropes, straps and winch lines are designed for that load and have a rating. Never use a ratcheting cargo strap for a recovery pull, and always check the rating of any recovery gear before use.

Which towing parts depend on my exact machine?

Winch mounts and plow mounting kits depend on it most, because they bolt to the frame and are listed by make, model and year. Rope, straps and hitch balls are more general but still need the right size and rating. Pick your machine in the Ride Finder to check fit.

Do I need a winch to run a plow?

It depends on the plow system. Some lift the blade with the machine's winch through a pulley and line, while others use an electric actuator controlled by a switch. Read the plow listing and the maker's instructions for what the system needs before you order.

What should I check before towing a trailer with a UTV or ATV?

Check the towing capacity and hitch limits in your owner's manual, match the ball size to the trailer coupler, and keep the load stable on the trailer. Also check trailer lights and brakes where required, and follow your local rules for towing.

What belongs in a basic recovery kit?

A winch or a rated recovery rope, rated shackles to connect it, work gloves and a snatch block for doubling the line. Use only gear with a stated working load, inspect it before each use, and follow the winch or rope maker's instructions.
