Hardware & Fasteners

About Hardware & Fasteners

A quad or side-by-side shakes bolts loose, rusts nuts and strips threads, so a stock of the right hardware saves a lot of trouble on the trail and in the shop. Owners shop here to replace lost or corroded fasteners, to upgrade to lighter or colored hardware, and to buy the tape and ties that finish a job.

The listings include M6 aluminum flange bolts and nuts in colors such as red and blue, aluminum spacers, a 52-piece metric hardware kit and an M8 titanium bolt. For shop and trail use there are cable ties, heat foil tape, racers tape, barricade tape and surface guard tape. Pick fasteners by thread size and length first. M6x16mm means a 6 mm thread that is 16 mm long. Then choose the head style and the material.

Aluminum is light and comes in colors, and it suits covers, plastics and trim. Use the original type and strength of fastener on suspension, brake, steering and wheel parts, and tighten to the torque in your service manual.

Brands include Bolt, Helix, WPS, DRC and ISC. Related parts are in Body & Frame, Guards & Protection and Lighting & Lamps, all part of UTV | ATV.

FAQs on UTV and ATV hardware and fasteners

What does M6x16 mean on a bolt?

M6 is the thread diameter, 6 millimeters, and 16 is the length in millimeters, measured from under the head to the tip for most bolts. Thread pitch is a separate measurement, so match the pitch as well as the size.

Can I replace steel bolts with aluminum ones?

Only in light-duty, non-structural places such as covers, plastics and trim. Aluminum is softer and weaker than steel, so do not use it on suspension, brakes, wheels or engine mounts. Use the type and strength the maker specifies.

What is a flange bolt or flange nut?

A flange is a built-in washer at the base of the bolt head or nut. It spreads the clamping load over a wider area and removes the need for a separate washer, which is why flanged hardware is common on powersports machines.

How tight should I tighten fasteners?

Use a torque wrench and the value in your service manual. The right torque depends on thread size, material and location, so do not guess. Small aluminum bolts strip easily, so tighten them gently and stop at the specified value.
