Exhaust & Emission Systems
About Exhaust & Emission Systems
An exhaust carries burned gas away from the engine, quiets it and, on a two-stroke quad, helps shape how the engine makes power. Riders on UTVs and ATVs look here to replace a dented, rusted or burned-through pipe or muffler, to get a deeper sound and better flow, or to add heat protection on hot-running machines, such as turbo side-by-sides.
The sub-categories divide the system. Exhaust System Kits sell complete systems and slip-on setups as one purchase, and Silencers, Mufflers & Baffles cover the rear section, including slip-on mufflers. Manifolds & Headers and Exhaust Pipes & Tips carry the gas from the engine to the muffler. Exhaust Gaskets & Seals and Clamps, Flanges, Hangers & Hardware put it together and hold it on, while Heat Shields & Wraps keep heat off nearby parts. See also Other Exhaust & Emission System Parts.
Brands here include DEI, Cobra, Helix, DRC and Yoshimura. Exhaust fit depends on the model and year, so pick your machine in the Ride Finder at the top of the page. A louder or freer-flowing exhaust can change how the engine runs, so look at Air Intake & Fuel Delivery too, and read why a part does not fit.
FAQs on UTV and ATV exhaust systems
How much of my exhaust should I replace?
That depends on the goal. A slip-on muffler changes the rear section and is the simplest upgrade. A full system replaces the pipe and muffler together and changes sound and flow more. If the damage is only a dented or rusted part, replace just that part.
Will a new exhaust change how my ATV or UTV runs?
It can. A freer-flowing exhaust changes how much air moves through the engine, so a carbureted machine may need rejetting and a fuel-injected one may need a fuel controller or a new map. Check the exhaust maker's notes for your model.
What is a spark arrestor and do I need one?
A spark arrestor is a screen or baffle in the muffler that stops hot carbon particles from leaving the exhaust. Many public riding areas require one, so check the rules where you ride and keep it fitted.
What are exhaust systems made of?
Common materials are stainless steel, aluminum and titanium, sometimes with carbon fiber end caps and a coating such as Cerakote. Stainless resists rust, titanium is lighter and costs more, and aluminum is a light choice often used for mufflers.
Why do some exhaust parts say Race Only?
Parts marked Race Only are made for competition and are not intended for use in public riding areas or where emissions or sound rules apply. Read the product notes, and check the noise and emissions rules for where you ride before you buy.
