About Floorboards & Parts

Floorboards give a cruiser or touring rider a flat platform to rest and reposition their feet on long rides, with a better footprint than a peg. Riders replace them when pads or vibration inserts wear out, when a board is scraped or bent, when they want more legroom, or when they want a different look. Passenger boards are listed here too.

The first choice is length and size. Stock-length boards sit close to the stock position, extended boards stretch out ahead of it, and mini boards are smaller and leave more ground clearance in corners. Shape is the next choice, with half-moon, swept, serrated and knurled designs all listed. Some have adjustable width. Check whether the board has vibration inserts and whether the rubber pads are replaceable, since pads are sold separately.

Driver and passenger boards are different parts, and mounts, screws and nuts are listed on their own. Fit depends on the model, from Harley-Davidson FL and M8 Softail models to cruisers such as the Honda VTX, so pick your bike in the Ride Finder at the top of the page. Longer boards can interfere with the shifter and brake pedal, so check how you will reach them.

Brands in this category include Cobra, Drag Specialties, Arlen Ness, Thrashin Supply Co. and Performance Machine (PM). The levers your feet operate are in Shift & Gear Levers and Foot Brake Levers & Pedals, and a bigger relocation is covered in Forward Controls & Relocation Kits. For hardware that holds boards on, see Clamps & Mounts, part of Foot Controls, Pedals & Pegs.

FAQs on motorcycle floorboards

Who should choose extended floorboards?

Riders who want to stretch their legs forward, such as taller riders or people who ride long highway days. Extended boards move the foot position ahead, so check that you can still reach the shifter and the brake pedal comfortably.

Will floorboards fit my year and model?

Floorboards are mounted to model-specific brackets, and driver and passenger sides are different. Pick your bike in the Ride Finder at the top of the page and compare the listing's years and model names.

Why do my floorboards vibrate or feel loose?

Worn rubber inserts, a loose mounting screw or a worn mount are common causes. Inspect the pads and inserts, tighten the hardware to the manual's value, and replace parts that are worn or cracked.

Will new floorboards change my shifter and brake pedal?

They can. A board that is longer or in a different position changes your reach, and you may need to change the shift linkage and brake pedal height. Check the kit instructions and test slowly before riding in traffic.

What is the difference between mini and extended floorboards?

Mini boards are smaller and give more cornering clearance. Extended boards are longer and move your feet forward for comfort. Neither is better; the choice depends on your leg length and how you ride.
