About Speakers
Motorcycle speakers live in a harsher place than car speakers: they face wind, rain, heat and constant vibration. Riders replace them when factory speakers blow or sound thin, when they add sound to a bike with none, or when they move up to larger speakers in a saddlebag lid, fairing, trunk or rear pod.
Size and location decide most of the choice. Listings here include 6-1/2 inch round speakers, 5 inch by 7 inch and 6 inch by 9 inch lids, saddlebag lid kits with cutouts for Harley-Davidson touring models, trunk speakers, rear speaker pods, vented lowers, baffles and grilles. The speaker has to fit the opening, so match the size and the model in the listing. There are also amplified speaker kits and a bar-mount Bluetooth speaker system and a scooter speaker kit. Check the power rating against your radio or amplifier, and pick your bike in the Ride Finder at the top of the page.
Brands here include Kicker, HardDrive, Jensen, Drag Specialties and Cardo. If you need more power for them, see Amplifiers, and for a matched set see Complete Audio Kits. The wider group is Audio, Communication & Navigation.
FAQs on motorcycle speakers
What size speakers fit my motorcycle?
It depends on where they mount. Common sizes in this category are 6-1/2 inch round, 5 inch by 7 inch and 6 inch by 9 inch, and lids and pods are cut for particular speakers. Use the size and model named in the listing, and check the manual or the opening you have.
Can I run new speakers from the stock radio?
Often, but factory radios put out limited power, so the sound may thin out at speed. Check the speakers' power rating against the radio's output, and consider an amplifier if you want more volume. Kits made for your model usually state what they need.
What is a speaker baffle for?
A baffle is a mounting ring or plate that holds a speaker in an opening so it sits correctly and cleanly in a fairing or lid. Baffles are listed by speaker size and shape, so match the size of your speaker.
Are motorcycle speakers waterproof?
Many are built for outdoor use, but weather resistance varies. Saddlebag and fairing locations are partly sheltered, and exposed positions are not. Check the listing for any water-resistance claim, and do not assume every speaker can take direct spray.
Should I replace speakers in pairs?
Yes, replace left and right speakers together so the sound is balanced, and do the same for front and rear pairs where you can. Mixing different speakers can make the sound uneven.
