About Accessories
Motorcycle accessories in this section are the supplies and extras around the bike rather than parts bolted onto it. It is split into Chemicals & Lube, Cleaning & Detailing and Misc. Accessories. Riders come here for oil and fluids at service time, for products to clean the bike after a ride, and for tools and extras for the shop and the trailer.
Chemicals include engine oils for four-stroke and two-stroke engines, oil change kits, fork oil, chain lube, fuel treatment and brake fluid. Match them to your engine and to what your owner's manual specifies: the type of oil, its grade, and whether it suits a wet clutch. Cleaning products include bike and ATV washes, degreasers, polishes and detailers, and you pick them by the surface they are meant for. The section also lists items like tie-down straps, so check the title to be sure of what a listing is.
Brands here include Atlantis, DEI, Helix, Michelin and Airhead. This section is part of Motorcycle, where you will find the parts these supplies go with.
FAQs on motorcycle accessories and supplies
How do I choose the right engine oil for my motorcycle?
Use the oil grade and specification in your owner's manual. That tells you the viscosity, such as 10W-40, and any standard the oil must meet. Check whether the oil is made for four-stroke or two-stroke engines, and whether the oil also has to work with a wet clutch.
What is the difference between 4T and 2T oil?
4T oil is for four-stroke engines, which hold oil in a sump, and 2T oil is for two-stroke engines, which burn it with the fuel. They are not interchangeable. Check your manual to learn which your engine needs and whether it is mixed in the fuel or injected.
Can I use car oil in my motorcycle?
Check your manual first. Many motorcycles share oil between the engine and a wet clutch, and some car oils contain friction modifiers that can make the clutch slip. Oil made for motorcycles is built with that in mind, so use the grade and specification the manual lists.
How should I prepare a motorcycle for storage?
Clean it, change the oil if it is due, charge or disconnect the battery, and add fuel stabilizer to the tank following the directions on the product. Run the engine briefly so the treated fuel reaches the carburetor or injectors.
What is the safe way to wash a motorcycle?
Wash it when the engine and brakes are cool, use a cleaner made for vehicles, and avoid spraying high-pressure water at bearings, electrical connectors and the air intake. Rinse, dry it and lube the chain if the bike has one.
