Like the rest of the Kold Kutter lineup, it's treated to increase Rockwell hardness so the tip holds a sharp edge instead of rounding off after repeated hard starts, and a reinforced head edge helps the screw resist shearing when it's doing the most work - digging into the ice under hard acceleration and braking.
