Other Belt, Chain & Sprocket Parts

About Other Belt, Chain & Sprocket Parts

This category collects drive parts that do not fit neatly into the main belt, chain or sprocket groups. The listings are mixed: drive chains sold by chain size and link count, front and rear sprockets, secondary drive belts listed by tooth count and width, a primary chain, a clutch pack and a clear chrome derby cover. Riders land here to replace a worn or stretched drive part or to finish a rebuild.

Because the contents are mixed, match each part on its own numbers rather than on the category. A drive chain is listed by its size (520, 525 and 428 all appear) and its link count, and the chain size has to match the sprockets it runs on. Sprockets are listed by tooth count and by the makes they fit, in aluminum and in a choice of colors. A drive belt is listed by tooth count and width, for example 139 teeth and 1-1/8 in., with the model codes it fits, such as FLHT/FLTR. The primary chain is listed by its own chain number and link count.

Several listings name street motorcycle models, so read each fitment line before you order. When you replace a chain, replace both sprockets with it, since a new chain on worn sprockets wears out quickly.

Brands in this category include D.I.D, EK, S&S Cycle, Barnett and ThreeD. Pick your machine in the Ride Finder at the top of the page to narrow the list to parts made for it. Related categories are Final Drive Belts & Chains, Sprockets and Primary Drive Belts & Chains, all under Final & Primary Drive Parts & Kits. To decode chain numbers, see this chain size chart.

FAQs on belt, chain and sprocket parts

How do I read a drive chain listing such as 520 with 120 links?

The first number is the chain size, which sets the pitch and roller width and must match your sprockets. The link count is the length of the chain. Take the size from your owner's manual or your old chain, and check the link count against what your machine and sprocket sizes need, since a change in sprocket teeth can change the length.

Should I replace the chain and sprockets together?

Yes, it is the usual practice. A chain and its sprockets wear as a matched set, so a new chain on worn sprockets wears quickly and a new sprocket on a stretched chain does the same. Replacing the chain and both sprockets together gives the longest life from the new parts.

What do tooth count and width mean on a drive belt?

Tooth count is the number of teeth around the belt, which sets its length, and width is the measurement across it. A secondary drive belt must match the original on both, and the model code in the listing, to run correctly on its pulleys. Compare the listing's fitment line with your model before ordering.

Is a primary chain the same as a final drive chain?

No. A primary chain sits in the primary drive, between the engine and the clutch or transmission, while the final drive chain runs from the transmission to the rear wheel. They are different sizes, so order each by its own chain number and link count and check the fitment line.
