Hand & Foot Controls

About Hand & Foot Controls

Hand and foot controls are the levers and pedals you operate every ride: the brake and clutch levers on the bars, the shifter, the throttle and the foot brake. They take daily abuse and are the first parts to bend or snap in a tip-over, which is why riders replace them, and why many choose a different style or finish when they do.

The category divides by control. Hand Brake Levers, Clutch Levers and Clutch & Hand Brake Lever Kits cover the levers on the handlebar. Shift & Gear Levers covers the shifter, including bell cranks for Polaris, and Throttle Controls and Foot Brake Levers & Pedals cover the other controls by name. Brake lines and throttle cables for specific quads are listed in this group too, and Other Hand & Foot Controls is worth a look for anything else.

Levers, cables and lines are made for particular machines, so match the make, model and year, and pick your machine in the Ride Finder at the top of the page. Brake levers and brake lines are safety parts: install them as the service manual describes and test the brakes at low speed before riding. Brands here include Domino, Streamline, Parts Unlimited, Arlen Ness and All Balls. Related parts are in Brakes & Brake Parts and Footrests, Pedals & Pegs.

FAQs on UTV and ATV hand and foot controls

Is it safe to straighten a bent brake lever?

No. Replace it. A bent lever has been stressed and may have a hidden crack, and a brake lever that fails mid-ride is a serious problem. A spare lever is inexpensive protection for remote trail rides.

Do hand levers from one model fit another?

Sometimes a design is shared across years or related models, but not always. Listings show year ranges, such as 1985 to 2005 for some Honda FourTrax levers. Match your make, model and year rather than the look of the lever.

Are throttle cables universal?

No. Cable length, end fittings and routing differ by machine, so a throttle cable has to be listed for your make, model and year. After fitting, check that the throttle snaps closed with the bars turned fully left and right.

How do I choose a replacement shift lever?

Match it to your machine first. Then decide on style: a steel lever is a straight replacement, a billet lever can offer a different shape, and a folding lever is made to give on impact. Check the lever length against your boot size.

Can I mix lever finishes on the same handlebar?

Yes. Finish is cosmetic, and a black lever works the same as a polished one if it is the right part for your machine. Check that both levers are made for your model, and that they feel smooth through their full travel.
