Fuel Injectors
About Fuel Injectors
A fuel injector is the electrically operated nozzle that sprays a metered amount of fuel into a fuel-injected engine. Owners shop for one when the engine runs rough and the injector is the likely cause, or when added power parts need more fuel than the stock injectors supply.
The listings here fall into two groups. Injector sets and upgrade kits are matched to an engine, and some titles give the flow rate in grams per second so you can compare one set with another. Cleaning kits are built for a particular injector style, such as the Nippon Denso and EV6 types named in the product titles, so confirm yours is the same style. Some listings in this category are for other machine types, such as Harley-Davidson V-twins, so read the title and pick your machine in the Ride Finder at the top of the page.
Brands here include Dynojet, Motion Pro and Daytona Twin Tec. Fuel delivery works as a chain, so if an injector problem keeps coming back, also look at Fuel Filters and Fuel Pumps & Sending Units. The whole group is Air Intake & Fuel Delivery.
FAQs on fuel injectors
What are the signs of a dirty or failing fuel injector?
Common signs are a rough idle, hesitation on the throttle, hard starting and poorer fuel economy. A clogged fuel filter, a weak pump or a fouled spark plug cause the same symptoms, so check those first.
Can fuel injectors be cleaned instead of replaced?
Often, if the problem is deposit buildup. A cleaning kit made for your injector style pushes cleaner through it. An injector that leaks or has failed electrically needs replacing. Fuel is flammable, so work outdoors, away from sparks.
Will larger fuel injectors add power by themselves?
No. Larger injectors can deliver more fuel, but the engine's computer has to be set up to use it. Without a matching tune the engine can run too rich and perform worse. Follow the maker's instructions for what else is required.
How do I choose the right injector for my engine?
Match the listing to your machine's make, model, year and engine. If you are moving to an upgrade set, compare the flow rate against your current injectors. Injectors are not interchangeable between engines, so read the fitment notes in the listing before you order.
