Accessory Lighting
About Accessory Lighting
Accessory lighting is added for looks and visibility rather than to replace a required light. The samples include LED accent kits and strips, saddlebag and trunk lights, wheel and engine lights, fairing vent lights, marker lights and an RGB light bar. Riders add them to customize a bike or to make it easier to see from the side and rear.
Think about what each light is for. Accent strips and wheel lights are decorative. Lights with running, brake or turn signal functions, such as some saddlebag lights and fairing vent lights, connect to the bike's lighting circuits. Many are for specific models, such as saddlebag lights for Harley-Davidson and Indian bags, so match the model and year. Check the wiring: some tie into existing lights through a harness, and others need switched power and a ground, so confirm what the kit includes. Check lens color and local rules, especially for lights that show to the front or rear.
Brands in this category include CIRO, Drag Specialties, Custom Dynamics, Saddle Tramp and Straightline Performance. Decorative kits are collected in Accessory & Accent Lighting. The main lights are in Headlight Assemblies, Tail & Brake Light Assemblies and Turn Signal Light Assemblies, and wiring parts are in Sockets, Connectors & Wiring. The whole group is Lighting & Lamps. Pick your bike in the Ride Finder at the top of the page for model-specific lights.
FAQs on motorcycle accessory lighting
Do accent lights drain the battery?
LED accent lights draw little current, but they still add to the load, especially when several run with the engine off. Check the kit's current draw against your bike's charging capacity, and avoid leaving them on for long with the engine stopped.
How are accessory lights wired to a motorcycle?
Some kits plug into the existing lights through a harness, and others connect to power, ground and a switch. Fuse the power lead, keep wiring away from heat and moving parts, and follow the kit's instructions. If you are unsure, ask a shop to fit them.
Are colored accent lights allowed on a motorcycle?
Lighting rules vary by state and country, so check local rules for color, flashing and placement before you fit accent lights, especially ones visible from the front or back. A light made to show a color or flash a pattern may not be allowed on the road where you ride.
Will saddlebag lights fit my bags?
Saddlebag lights are made for specific bag styles and model years, so check the fitment line. Latch lights, bag blades and marker-style lights mount in different ways. Use the Ride Finder at the top of the page to see the ones made for your bike.
Can LED strips be used in the rain?
Strips made for motorcycles are meant for outdoor use, but check the listing for water resistance and seal the connections the way the instructions say. Route the strip away from hot parts and moving parts, and secure the wiring so it cannot rub through.
