About Seats, Parts & Accessories

The seat is the part of a motorcycle you feel on every ride, and it also decides how easily you reach the ground and how the bike looks. Riders replace seats for comfort on long rides, to change seat height or shape, to add a passenger seat or backrest, or because the cover has torn and the foam has flattened.

The sub-categories split the job. Seats are complete replacements, and the listings include solo and two-up styles for Harley-Davidson Softail, Dyna and Touring models, plus seats and pillions for models such as the Chief, Roadliner and KTM. Seat Covers re-skin an existing seat, which changes the surface and look but not the shape. Backrests covers backrests and sissy bars for the rider or passenger. See also Seat Cowls and Additional Seat Parts. Seats are model and year specific, so pick your bike in the Ride Finder at the top of the page.

Brands here include Mustang, Cobra, Colony, Drag Specialties and Custom Dynamics. For more on height, comfort and touring options, read our motorcycle seat guide. The wider group is Body & Frame.

FAQs on motorcycle seats and seat accessories

Is a new seat or a seat cover better for comfort?

A cover changes the surface and the look, but the shape and foam stay the same, so it will not fix a seat that is too hard or the wrong shape. A new seat can change width, height and shape. If your seat is comfortable and only worn on top, a cover may be enough.

Can a different seat change my seat height?

Yes. Seats differ in thickness, width and shape, so a replacement can sit higher or lower than the original, and a narrow front can make it easier to reach the ground. Check the height the listing gives, and remember that lower seats may reduce legroom.

Can I carry a passenger on a solo seat?

No. A solo seat is shaped for one rider and has no place for a passenger. To ride two-up, you need a two-up seat or a compatible passenger seat or pillion for your model. Check the listing for what is included.

What should I check before ordering a seat for my model?

Confirm the make, model and year, because seats match specific frames, fuel tanks and mounting points. Also check whether it is for one rider or two, the height and any backrest it works with. Use the Ride Finder to narrow the list.
