Rain Wear
About Rain Wear
Rain wear is a waterproof layer worn over your riding gear when the weather turns. Riders keep a set stowed in a pack or pannier so a shower does not mean riding wet and cold.
The choice is between a suit and separate pieces. One-piece or two-piece rain suits cover you head to toe, and a jacket with separate pants lets you wear only what you need. Listings here include two-piece rain suits, Hurricane rain pants, jackets, and rain cover gloves. Size them to go over your jacket, pants and any armor, so choose a larger size than your normal gear.
Look at the details: taped or sealed seams, a collar that closes against the wind, cuffs and ankles that go over gloves and boots, and bright or reflective colors such as hi-vis yellow so other drivers see you. Rain gear often breathes less than riding gear, so expect some condensation inside on a warm day.
Brands here include Fly Racing, Nelson Rigg and Z1R. For feet, see Over Boots and Socks, and for hands see Gloves. Under it all, Base Layers & Underwear keep you warm, and the full group is Motorcycle & Powersports Gear.
FAQs on motorcycle rain gear
Does rain gear fit over an armored jacket?
It should, but only if you size it for that. Rain gear is cut larger than normal clothing, though the armor and layers add bulk. Check the size chart and the listing, and choose a larger size if you are between sizes.
Why do I get wet inside my rain suit?
Water can come in at the collar, cuffs and seams, and sweat can condense inside a waterproof layer. Close the neck and cuffs, keep the zipper flap shut and choose a suit with sealed seams. Some moisture inside on a warm day is normal.
What color should rain gear be?
Bright colors such as hi-vis yellow help other drivers see you in rain and low light, when visibility is poor. Reflective trim adds to this at night, while dark colors are harder to see in rain.
Should I buy a rain suit or just rain pants and a jacket?
A suit gives complete coverage and is quick to pull on, while separate pieces let you wear only what is needed. Pants and a jacket can also be used separately for other uses, so consider how often you ride in rain.
