About Other Headwear
Hats, beanies and head wraps are for the time you are off the bike, or under a helmet in the case of thin wraps and skull caps. Riders buy them for team and brand wear, for warmth in cold weather or to keep sweat and hair out of the eyes.
The listings here are mostly caps and beanies from manufacturer teams and apparel brands, with names like Honda, Yamaha and Pro Circuit. Pick by style and fit. Snapback caps adjust at the back, and fitted caps come in set sizes, so check the size notes. Curved and flat bills are a matter of style. Youth caps are listed as well. Beanies are for cold days.
Head wraps and thin skull caps go under a helmet, but an ordinary hat or a thick knit beanie does not, because it changes how the helmet fits and can leave the chin strap loose. None of these items gives impact protection, so wear a certified helmet when you ride. For a head covering that goes under a helmet, see Balaclavas, Masks & Tubes.
Brands in this category include THOR, Alpinestars, Fly Racing and Pro Circuit. Other gear for the head and eyes is under Protective Gear, with Eyewear and Ear Plugs nearby.
FAQs on riding hats and head wraps
Can I wear a beanie under my helmet?
A thin skull cap or head wrap works, but a thick knit beanie usually makes the helmet fit tighter and less evenly. The helmet should still fit snugly with a cap on. If it feels too tight or too loose, take the cap off or pick a thinner one.
Does a motorcycle hat protect my head in a crash?
No. Hats and beanies are for style, warmth and sun, and they give no impact protection or replacement for a helmet. Always wear a certified helmet when you ride, and keep the hat for off the bike.
Snapback or fitted: which cap should I choose?
A snapback has an adjustable strap at the back, so one size fits a range of heads. A fitted cap comes in set sizes, often small and medium or large and extra large, and is sized to a head measurement. Check the listing for which type it is.
Can I put a cap in the washing machine?
Check the care label first. Many structured caps are best hand washed in cool water with mild soap, shaped by hand and air dried, because a machine and a dryer can bend the bill and shrink the crown. Embroidered logos last longer with gentle care.
